Fishing opportunities are numerous throughout the lake whether you are fishing from a boat or from the 500 miles of shoreline. To maintain it's great striped bass fishing, Lake Murray is re-stocked each spring with approximately 1 million striped bass fingerlings. It takes about 3 years for the fingerlings to reach the harvest size of 21 inches.

Fish Attractor and Fishing Pier Locations

The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources maintains 24 fish attractor locations at Lake Murray. These locations are marked by buoys and provide enhanced fishing opportunities. Do not anchor at the fish attractor locations due to the likely hood of getting entangled with the fish attractor structure. Multiple lake access areas have fishing piers that provide access to the lake for fishermen without a boat. If you do not own fishing tackle loaner fishing tackle including rod, reel and tackle box are available at Deher Island State Park.

Fishing License Information

All fisherman above the age of 16 must have a valid South Carolina Fishing license to fish at Lake Murray. Fish licenses can be bought at tackle shops, sporting goods stores, marinas and online.
